About MOTS-c

MOTS-c (Mitochondrial ORF of the 12S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded by mitochondrial DNA rather than the nuclear genome, which places it in the small family of mitochondrial-derived peptides alongside humanin and the SHLPs. It was first characterised by Lee and colleagues at the University of Southern California in 2015, and circulating levels are reported to decline with age.

Research areas

AMPK activation through the folate-methionine cycle and downstream AICAR accumulation; insulin-sensitivity and glucose-uptake models; skeletal-muscle metabolism and exercise physiology; and the stress-dependent translocation of the peptide to the nucleus, where it has been shown to regulate adaptive gene expression. Supplied for laboratory research into these pathways.

Can I change my mind and return an order?

If you are buying as a consumer, yes: you have 14 days from delivery to cancel, without giving a reason, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Tell us within 14 days, send the sealed vials back within 14 days, and we refund the goods plus the original delivery charge within 14 days. Return postage is at your cost unless the item was faulty or wrong. Opened vials are the one exception: our vials are sealed sterile, and regulation 28(3)(b) puts sealed goods that cannot be resold once unsealed, for health and hygiene reasons, outside the cancellation right.
