About Insulin Syringe U-100 Pack of 10

A U-100 insulin syringe with a fixed 29 gauge needle, 12.7 mm long and 0.33 mm across, in two barrel sizes: 1 mL, which holds 100 units and is marked in twos, and 0.5 mL, which holds 50 units and is marked one unit at a time. The needle is bonded to the barrel rather than fitted to a luer hub, so there is almost no dead space: what is drawn up is what comes out, and nothing is left behind in a fitting. The barrel is long and narrow for its volume, which is what puts single units a readable distance apart, and the 0.5 mL puts them further apart still.

Used for

Drawing measured volumes of reconstituted peptide solution from a vial at the bench; portioning a stock solution into working aliquots, where fine graduation matters more than capacity; and adding a small volume of diluent to a vial when a reconstitution calls for less than a whole vial of water. For larger transfers a 3 mL or 5 mL luer syringe is the better tool; these are for accuracy over the first millilitre, and the 0.5 mL for accuracy over the first half of one.

Specification: U-100 graduation, 1 mL (100 units, marked in twos) or 0.5 mL (50 units, marked singly); 29G (0.33 mm) needle, 12.7 mm long, fixed to the barrel; sterile interior, single use; latex-free; CE marked. Each syringe is capped at both ends, needle shield and plunger cap, and ten come sealed in one pack. A syringe whose shield has come off or whose plunger has been drawn is used, and goes in the sharps bin rather than back in the pack.
