Research interest rests on that pairing. The GHRH analogue acts at the GHRH receptor, driving cAMP signalling and growth hormone synthesis and release; ipamorelin acts at GHS-R1a, the ghrelin receptor, and is reported to reduce somatostatin restraint on the same cells. Studies of GHRH analogues given with secretagogues report a larger growth hormone pulse than either class alone, with IGF-1 as the usual downstream readout. Ipamorelin has also been investigated for its selectivity, with little rise in cortisol, ACTH or prolactin in the reported work. Rodent studies have examined it in bone mineral content and gastrointestinal motility.

Evidence sits mostly upstream of the clinic. Human data exist for the DAC-bearing form of CJC-1295 and for GHRH analogues as a class, while the DAC-free peptide is characterised largely in animal and in vitro work. Ipamorelin reached early clinical development and was not carried forward. The combination itself has no published clinical trial data, so its rationale is inferred from separate studies of each class. Neither peptide is licensed as a medicine in the UK, and both fall under the WADA prohibited list, section S2, at all times.

Co-lyophilisation fixes the ratio of the two peptides in the vial, so they cannot be varied independently within an experiment.
